Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Interest Group
The purpose of the PM&R IG is to increase student exposure to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, an interdisciplinary specialty with a diverse set of subspecialties including sports med, pain medicine, and spinal cord injury medicine, cancer rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury, palliative care, etc.
Benefits
PM&R focuses on caring for patients with disabilities, which is of interest for all student physicians. Physiatry utilizes thorough neurologic and musculoskeletal physical exams, as well as point of care diagnostic technologies such as ultrasound and electrodiagnostics. Further, Physiatry emphasizes how physicians function as team leaders, collaborating care across a variety of disciplines including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, nursing, social work, et al.
