Programs in Physical Therapy attend the HDSA walk

Dr. Ashwini Rao and students from the Programs in Physical Therapy participated in the Huntington's Disease walk organized by the Huntington's Disease Society of America. The greater NY Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America organized its annual Team Hope Walk to raise awareness of Huntington’s disease, help connect families with each other and with organizations, and raise funds. Due to inclement weather, the event was moved to the CUIMC Campus. The event was attended by >100 individuals (including patients, family members and supporters), as well as local organizations such as the CHDI Foundation, ArchCare etc. CUIMC Programs in Physical Therapy students and research coordinator Corey Landis helped set up Neuro games, interacted with patient and family members.

We requested insights from Kelly Muntzenberger, Zoe Oron, Julia Radick, and Madeline Spence to give us a summary of their experience.

“Attending the Huntington's Disease walk hosted by the Huntington's Disease Society of America was a profound honor. It is a symbolic gesture of unity and support for individuals and families affected by this devastating genetic disorder. The event brings together people from diverse backgrounds, all bound by a common purpose: to raise awareness, funds, and hope in the fight against Huntington's Disease. Standing alongside those who face the challenges of this condition every day is a humbling experience that highlights the strength of the human spirit and the power of community. It is an opportunity not only to contribute to scientific research and patient care, but also to stand in solidarity with those who persevere in the face of adversity. Attending this walk is a testament to our collective commitment to making a difference and offering a brighter future for those living with Huntington's Disease.”
