GET-UPP Program Structure

GET-UPP programming consists of three central pillars: career exposure and development, mentorship and advisement, and practical experiences.

Career Exposure and Development

Through participating in interactive webinars and in-person workshops led by VP&S staff, students, and faculty, scholars gain valuable skills that prepare them to thrive academically, build lasting professional relationships, and position themselves optimally for medical school admissions. Students also consolidate their learning, outline their application timelines, develop personal statements and more through various journal exercises. Over the course of several programming cycles, students will graduate from the program with a foundation that will encourage success throughout their medical school trajectory and beyond.

Mentorship and Advisement

With the guidance of a faculty mentor, each GET-UPP scholar has the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the profile and responsibilities of a medical professional. Through this pairing, students increase their understanding of a variety of disciplines in the medical field and integrate valuable insights into the visioning and execution of their own professional goals. Students also benefit from individual academic advisement sessions with program staff, including support from the Associate Dean of the Office of Student Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Practical Experiences

Finally, through clinical shadowing and other practical experience offerings, the program provides students with a dynamic look into a clinician’s work in the hospital setting, private practice, or free clinic. In addition to these clinical rotations, scholars will also attend interactive workshops led by program administrators and medical students at the Vagelos Education Center and community clinics. These workshops will showcase the application of clinical skills learned at VP&S.
