2020 Janet Falk-Kessler Distinguished Lecturer: Danielle Butin, MPH, OTR

Danielle Butin headshot

Danielle is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Afya Foundation, a non-profit organization that rescues surplus medical supplies to provide disaster relief and meet ongoing medical needs of struggling communities around the world. The medical supplies that Afya distributes are sorted and packed in a warehouse in Yonkers by volunteers, including those with psychiatric and developmental disabilities. These volunteers are now supervised by occupational therapy fieldwork students as part of yet another innovative program. Afya was awarded a Clinton Global Citizen Award in 2015 for their ebola response efforts. Along with our students at CUOT, Danielle and Afya also made significant aid to relief efforts in Puerto Rico in 2018.

Danielle's keynote speech will be "”Innovating in Life’s Uncertain Corners".

Join Danielle on a reflective journey of trusting one’s self and finding the courage to lead a life rich in meaning. Honest and humorous in approach, this thought-provoking lecture will present stories on how she launched the Afya Foundation and offer educators, students, and clinicians lessons towards inspirational leadership and service to others.
