VP&S Musicians’ Guild

Jean Sibelius - Symphony No. 2 in D Major

The VP&S Musicians’ Guild is the umbrella organization for musical events at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. With over 250 members from across our medical center's schools, we have monthly “Musical Mondays” concerts, bi-annual orchestra concerts, and Artreach concerts at local hospitals. For questions, email ps-musicians-guild@cumc.columbia.edu.

Musical Mondays

Every month, the 50 Haven Main Lounge is rearranged into a cozy musical venue to give members of the medical center's community the opportunity to perform classical music in a relaxed, informal setting. Musical Mondays typically include performances by chamber ensembles, instrumentalists, and vocalists, and the formation of chamber groups is facilitated by our Musicians’ Guild Directory. These concerts are well-attended by students, faculty, staff, and deans. All concerts are free to attend and refreshments are served.

Artreach Concerts

The VP&S Musicians’ Guild has set up performances at Milstein Hospital for patients in the rehab unit. If you love playing an instrument, singing, monologuing, dancing, or telling stories, this is a great opportunity to interact with patients on a different level and give them a nice break from the hospital. Our monthly Artreach concerts are 45 minutes and low-key, with the focus on engaging and interacting with the patients. You can introduce yourself and your piece to give an idea of what to listen to and watch for, and patients are free to ask questions or move to the music in a comfortable setting. You can perform whatever you want—play classical, jazz or pop music, do improv, or read poetry—and have fun with fellow performers and patients.

Visit the VP&S Musicians' Guild YouTube channel to watch videos of past performances from Musical Mondays, CUIMC Symphony Orchestra concerts, and more.
