Annual Events

Annual events include the club fair, Leonides Winter Semi-Formal, and Super Night. Descriptions follow.

Club Fair

In the beginning of the fall semester, all registered clubs and organizations under P&S convene to meet with and greet new medical students and introduce them to the assortment of activities offered by the P&S Club. All are encouraged to get involved, as the P&S Club supports academic, social, and professional growth for medical students. Club themes are:

The fair is open to Columbia's entire medical center community and usually takes place on the last Monday of August after classes begin for medical students.

Leonides Winter Semi-Formal

In January or February, all the medical school classes come together to celebrate and enjoy an evening together at the Leonides Winter Semi-Formal. Each year, the event has a different theme. Past themes have included:

Super Night

Super Night was launched in 1978 by then-P&S Club President Michael Kesselbrenner, MD'78, to bring together members of the graduating medical class to support each other and celebrate the night before Match Day (when they learn residency placements for after graduation). The event includes dinner in Bard Hall, followed by an evening of skits, performances, and videos in Alumni Auditorium to entertain and relax students before their important day. Each year, Super Night has a different theme. Past themes have included:

  • March/Match Madness (2012)
  • Oscars (2011)

Event details include:

  • 6 p.m. - Dinner in Bard Hall Ballroom for past and current members of the graduating class.
  • 8 p.m. - Pre-Match Day Celebration in Bard Hall Lounge open to all members of the Columbia medical center community.
  • 8:30 p.m. - Show with skits, live music, and videos. (Arrive at 8 p.m. to settle in, get seats, and check out costumes celebrating the chosen theme.)
