3-1 Template-Based Hire (TBH) Nomination for Rehire

Policy

A rehire is defined as an officer of instruction or research or student officer who was previously employed by the University and is returning to work at the University. Departments may rehire officers who were previously employed by Columbia University and the transactions are processed as rehires, not new hires. The CUIMC Rehire Template is used to rehire officers of instruction and research for both clinical and non-clinical positions. If unable to use the TBH, departments should use a Paper Nomination.

If an officer is terminated due to the department’s failure to submit the renewal transaction in a timely manner (Auto-Termed), a TBH is used to transact the rehire. Note that CV and Chair letter are not needed in this case. Submit visa documentation if applicable.

Requirements

Department submits the following:

  • Letter from chair to Dean recommending that the rehire be approved and including the rehire date and title
  • Officer’s CV in COAP format
  • Completed TBH

Workflow

  • The OFA Representative reviews the request and submits it to the SVP for approval.
  • The Senior Director reviews and, if acceptable, approves the request.
  • OFA approves and electronically submits the TBH to CUIMC Payroll, if salaried, or directly to HRPC, if zero-salaried.
