1-3 Appointment of Student Officers
Policy
Full-time graduate students who assist in the instructional and research programs of their departments and schools (teaching assistants), participate in departmentally funded research (departmental research assistants), or participate in externally funded research (graduate research assistants) may be appointed as student officers. Students may hold only one appointment as an officer of instruction or research at the same time and only in one of the ranks described in the Faculty Handbook’s Student Officers of Instruction and Research section. The $0 GRA appointment is being enacted to bring conformity to appointment practices across the university.
Requirements
Department submits the following:
- The Appointment Letter
- Officer Letter (includes name of candidate, class information, and payment amount)
- Letter from chair to Dean recommending the appointment and including the officer’s name, title, and effective date of hire
- Officer’s CV, using the COAP format as a guideline
- TBH, or Paper Nomination if unable to use the TBH
- Invention Agreement (only applicable to GRAs)
- Visa and non-resident alien documents, when applicable
- Tax documents, if salaried
- Voluntary Self-Identification of Race and Ethnicity form
- PFL Waiver Form or PFL Cover Letter that acknowledges option to waive
Workflow
Path 1 – Submission via TBH
- The Sr OFA Client Manager reviews the submission and submits it to the OFA Senior Director.
- The OFA Senior Director reviews the submission and, if acceptable, approves the transaction electronically, which then informs CUIMC Payroll.
Path 2 – Submission via Paper Nomination
- The Sr OFA Client Manager reviews the submission and submits it to the OFA Director.
- The OFA Senior Director reviews the submission and, if acceptable, approves the transaction.
- The Sr OFA Client Manager submits the Paper Nomination to CUIMC Payroll.
